Nat Rahav

Trained as a jazz drummer in his teenage years, Nat Rahav started DJing in 1992 when he discovered the blossoming scene of Hip Hop and Jazz fusion. He quickly realized that he preferred the turntables to the drum kit as a conduit for rhythm, and that the DJ has the unique capability of creating a new experience in sound by blending different styles of music.

Nat draws on music traditions from all over the world in his DJ sets; afrobeat, house, disco, funk, hip hop, R&B, reggae, dub, asian, and latin grooves, are all part of his sound. The essence is in his interplay between familiar grooves and new sounds, and in bringing out the funk element in all these different music traditions.

Nat has rocked many of New York's most beloved night spots : Giant Step, SOB's, Shelter, SPA, Baktun, Filter 14, and the Frying Pan. He has also played in Japan, Puerto Rico, Vienna, and Budapest. He was a resident at Turntables on the Hudson in 2000

In 1999 Nat co-founded the RhythmLove record label with Nickodemus and Mariano. RhythmLove has released the Turntables on the Hudson compilation CDs and seven DJ vinyl 12"s. Nat also built and runs, with Nickodemus, the online music shop at RhythmLove.com, which makes available the CDs and records that they find influential.
